I haven't been to the beach all Summer. I tried on the 4th of July.
I was working out and feeling great, for being almost 80. So I jumped on my motorized trike that morning and headed to the Biloxi, MS sand.
I was about a hundred yards from it, I was staring at it, when my world suddenly went upside down. I don't remember much, I hit a sidewalk pothole, of which Biloxi is famous for, and crashed.
The first thing I remember was laying on the sidewalk holding my right leg, and seeing my foot just dangling from the end of it. The next thing I did was call 911.
Two surgeries later and a month at a care facility, I got back home. Fortunately I had paid my new roommate for the month that I wasn't there.
But I was moving around the apartment in a wheelchair. Yesterday a Physical Therapy person came by and said I was cleared to wear "The Boot", which is a convoluted thing with straps that I've finally figured out.
And today I actually walked with it! My poor right leg had forgotten its purpose in life, but it's coming back. I'm supporting myself with the walker with wheels, but I've actually walked without the walker.
A nurse dropped by today and said the suture on my ankle looked good, and she put a fresh wrap on it.
I AM GOING TO WALK AGAIN!
