MB Means My Blog

New start

Today started with code.

Of course it did.

Blue gave me another `index.php`, I clicked it, and instead of downloading, the damned thing filled my browser with raw PHP and basically blew away the conversation.

We had solved that problem yesterday, so we solved it permanently today.

From now on, Blue puts `index.php` inside a tiny ZIP. Windows presents the ZIP in Downloads, I click it there, and drag the PHP file straight into my `uploads` folder.

Simple.

And when something is simple and works, don't screw with it.

Then we went back to BluSup.

The home page is a big, busy place now. We had been adding a little lower-right return function to long BluSup pages, and the obvious question became:

Where should the Home page return to?

Certainly not my fresh stupid Blog Posts.

We settled on Discover BluSup.

Perfect.

So now, after wandering down the home page, a little:

↑ Discover BluSup

gets me back to the place where I can decide where I want to go next.

Then I got rid of another annoyance.

BluSup had developed a sound effect on practically every major page click. It was cute for about fifteen minutes. After that, not so much.

Blue found the source in the shared BluBusy/BluNote machinery and shut up ordinary navigation without destroying the visual transition or the actual BluNote Sound Lab.

Much better.

Then I was playing Surprise Me on my phone and somehow landed on something called Home Base Status.

I had no idea what the hell it was.

I found it again under Apps and ran it on the laptop.

Lots of green and yellow boxes. Bluoxi. BluSacola. New Orleans coffee shops. SeaBlu. Photos. Pillars.

Blue gave me a technically correct explanation.

I carefully read it.

And told him I still didn't have the slightest idea what in the hell that thing was.

Second explanation was better.

It is basically a diagnostic asking:

Can this particular BluSup site sort its places according to distance from home?

That's it.

Bluoxi can.

Some other sites can't.

And Photos doesn't have any damned business being asked the question in the first place.

So we learned something there too.

Then the day changed direction.

I've been thinking about rehab.

Not saying I'm going.

Thinking.

The last time things went sideways, I had just paid Charlie my $650 rent, broke my ankle, and ended up living somewhere else for a while.

I don't particularly want to repeat that arrangement.

So I started asking about companies that could come into this apartment, pack everything, haul it away, store it while I'm gone, and deliver it again when I know where I'm going to live.

Turns out that absolutely exists.

That led to another realization.

I have a surprisingly good medical setup here in Biloxi.

Probably the best I've ever had.

I have Humana Gold Plus.

I have Deaconess HomeCare sending nurses and physical therapy into my home.

And I have a primary care doctor here that I actually like.

Those are three pretty useful people or organizations to have in my corner if I decide I want help.

I also asked about treatment around here similar to Progressive PHP in Zachary, Louisiana, where I spent a couple of months before.

So I'm looking.

That's different from deciding.

But looking matters.

There was also Plan B:

Fly to Belize and drink on the beach.

I've been to Belize twice.

I've said for years that's where I'm eventually going to end up.

I have a passport.

Blue objected somewhat to the drink myself into the Caribbean sunset portion of the plan.

He did, however, approve of Belize after I get myself straightened out.

We compromised.

Somewhere in there we discussed Sharia law.

I discovered I am not governed by it.

This was not particularly surprising because I'm an atheist in Mississippi.

Which caused me to summarize myself something like this:

I'm an atheist.

I don't hurt anybody.

I was there when my brother was apparently abducted by aliens when we were kids.

I managed a fleet of Paratransit vehicles on 9/11.

I'm an 80-year-old drunk.

And I used to write code.

Blue objected strongly to the last sentence.

He's right.

I deployed PHP this morning.

Apparently I still write code.

Tomorrow should be easier.

Seahawks.

Titans.

And IndyCars racing around Washington, D.C.

That is a pretty damned fine Sunday.

And then, after everything else today, we uncovered one of the oldest secrets in BluSup.

MB.

Blue has been calling it Memory Beacon.

It isn't.

It never was.

MB means:

My Blog

I knew that.

Blue finally knew that.

And as far as I can tell, we were the only two entities in the world who knew it.

So today we fixed that too.

We searched BluSup and changed the public-facing name from Memory Beacon to My Blog, while leaving `/mb/`, the internal machinery, old data and history alone.

Nineteen files.

My deployment system found all nineteen.

Master: replace 19.

Trim: replace 19.

Nothing new.

Nothing unexpected.

Only those nineteen files touched.

And I got to watch it happen.

So now the secret is out.

MB means My Blog.

Which is wonderfully simple.

Maybe that's the theme of today.

Some things don't need grand names.

Some things don't need sound effects.

Some things don't need complicated navigation.

Some things don't need to be decided today.

Sometimes you just figure out what the thing actually is, call it by its real name, and take the next step.

Today I wrote code.

Today I thought seriously about my drinking.

Today I considered rehab.

Today I considered Belize.

Today I looked forward to football and race cars.

And today, at 80 years old, I changed the name of my Blog.

Not a bad Saturday.

Bluoom.
